As cool as Google Glass seemed, it had this magical ability to turn anyone, regardless of age, race, gender, into a middle-aged white dude. And that is exactly what LA-based Snapchat is trying to avoid with it’s super trendy video-camera equipped glasses they’re calling Spectacles.
Smile, You’re on Camera
These shades run a cool $129 a pop and let you shoot 10-second videos that upload directly to Snapchat. According to the Wall Street Journal, the glasses film 115-degrees wide to mimic human perception, and record a round image that creates videos outside the bounds of standard rectangular cropping. Lights on the front of the Spectacles flash when it’s recording, so you have to be real stealthy if you’re taking videos without people knowing.
The shades come in 3 different colors: black, teal and coral and the design will have you dreaming of SoCal.
