This Swimsuit is Now Illegal in France. And Most French Agree

When you think about where it’s legal to take your top off at the beach, what’s the first place that comes to mind?  The French Riviera.

We thought the French had a pretty casual attitude towards swimwear. Turns out, not so much.

 26 Towns in France have taken to banning the “burkini”, a full-body swimsuit worn by Muslim women


According to the Mayor of Cannes, “Beachwear which ostentatiously displays religious affiliation, when France and places of worship are currently the target of terrorist attacks, is liable to create risks of disrupting public order”


So far approximately 20 women have been fined, up to 38 Euros per citing


According to a survey, 64% of French people are in favor of the bans. Another 30% are indifferent.
