Who wouldn’t want to shack up in Leonardo DiCaprio’s super posh private island?
Though he’s best known as an Academy Award winning actor and supermodel magnet, he’s now making his mark as a staunch environmentalist.
In April, Leo announced plans to transform his private island off the coast of Belize into a full on eco-conscious resort, and finally these plans are becoming a reality.
The island dubbed Blackadore Caye is 104 acres of pristine, wild and all-natural coast line that come 2018, will be home to 116 environmentally conscious and ultra luxurious homes and villas.
The island has been hit hard by overfishing, sand erosion and the deforestation of its mangrove trees, and DiCaprio’s plans are to combat this by rehabbing the island with artificial reefs, fish shelters and a nursery designed to replenish indigenous plants.
The resort will be fully powered by renewable energy from solar panels and filtered rainwater. Food for the resort will also be locally grown and sourced.
Designed for Perfection
DiCaprio is teaming up with NYC real estate developers to not only create an environmentally conscious resort but one that exudes luxury at the same time. The villas and homes designed with infinity pools will sit atop an arc platform above the water and artificial reefs. Rumors are already circulating that these homes will sell for upwards of $5-$15 million.
